Music Hints and Tips
Throughout history, music has always been played at wedding ceremonies, but choosing what is right for you can be difficult. Live music proves to be most popular in the early proceedings as it has a more “human touch” and nothing can compare to the sound of a real instrument. Recorded music does have its place in early proceedings, but is usually played for dancing after the speeches if live music is not preferred (or when the live musicians or a wedding pianist takes a break)
During a church ceremony, for example, the church organist may play the processional, hymns and recessional music, and perhaps a soloist such as a pianist could play during the signing of the register (a favourite song melody perhaps). Or during a civil ceremony a soloist could play whilst guests are arriving, during signing of the register as well as throughout the wedding breakfast or meal and afterwards for dancing.
After the formalities, it is time for everybody to enjoy themselves by watching the bride and groom have their first dance to their favourite song as man and wife . Live or recorded music would be appropriate for this but many couples choose to have “their” song played by the original artist at this point with their chosen musician or DJ taking over after this. When booking a DJ or musicians for the evening’s entertainment it it may be appropriate to ask if their sound equipment is adequate for the size of room and also about lighting as this will dictate the mood of the evening. If you have an opinion about smoke machines, let it be known!
